Lahiru Dilshan Madushanka, born on September 12, 1992, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who specializes in limited-overs formats. He is a right-handed batsman and bowls right-arm medium-fast. Madushanka completed his education at St. Thomas’ College in Matale, where he developed his cricketing skills.
His talent was recognized early on, and he was selected to represent the Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team for the Quadrangular Under-19 Series in 2011. During the tournament, he showcased his abilities with a knock of 63 runs and impressive figures of 4 for 17 against India U-19, despite being on the losing side. He continued to impress by scoring an unbeaten 56 runs against Australia U-19, helping his team secure victory by 86 runs.
Madushanka made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Sri Lanka against South Africa on February 4, 2017. Although he was dismissed for a duck, he made an impact by taking the wicket of Faf du Plessis in his first over. In the series, he dismissed du Plessis three times in three consecutive matches.
He was included in the preliminary squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh but was not selected in the final 15. In September 2019, Madushanka made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against New Zealand, scoring 20 runs in the match. Sri Lanka emerged victorious by 37 runs, with Lasith Malinga’s exceptional performance playing a crucial role.
Madushanka has represented various domestic teams as well. He played for Bloomfield in
the SLC Twenty20 Tournament 2015, scoring his highest T20 score of 41 not out against Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club. He has also been part of teams like Dambulla, Colombo, and Galle in different editions of the Super Provincial One Day Tournament and the SLC T20 League.
