Koralegedera Nadeeja Ashen Bandara, commonly known as Ashen Bandara, is an accomplished Sri Lankan cricketer who represents his country in limited-overs internationals. Born on November 23, 1998, Bandara made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in March 2021.
Bandara’s cricketing journey began when he made his Twenty20 debut for Galle Cricket Club in the 2015–16 Premier T20 Tournament on January 6, 2016. Since then, he has showcased his skills and talent in various domestic and international competitions.
He was selected to represent Sri Lanka in the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and has played for different teams in domestic tournaments such as Saracens Sports Club, Galle, Colombo, and Dambulla. Bandara has made notable contributions in both first-class and List A matches, including scoring a century in the SLC Twenty20 Tournament in January 2020.
His impressive performances earned him a spot in the Dambulla Viiking team for the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League in October 2020. He has since represented teams like SLC Blues, Jaffna Kings, and Kandy Falcons in the Lanka Premier League.
Bandara’s international career took off in February 2021 when he was included in Sri Lanka’s limited-overs squad for their series against the West Indies.
He made his debut in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) on March 3, 2021, and his One Day International (ODI) debut on March 10, 2021, both against the West Indies. In his third ODI match, he scored his second half-century and played a crucial role in a 123-run partnership with Wanidu Hasaranga.
His consistent performances earned him a spot in Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Bandara’s talent and potential were further recognized when he was selected for the Sri Lanka Emerging Team’s tour to England in April 2022 and named in the Sri Lanka A squad for matches against Australia A.
Looking ahead, Bandara has been drafted into the B-Love Kandy team for the 2023 edition of the Lanka Premier League.
