Wanindu Hasaranga is a talented cricket player known for his aggressive style of batting and legbreak bowling. He emerged from the renowned Richmond College and showcased his skills while representing Sri Lanka in the Under-19 teams in 2015 and 2016. Throughout his early cricket career, Hasaranga displayed great potential.

Initially, it was his bowling that caught the attention of many during the Under-19 matches. In a crucial quarter-final match against England in the 2016 Youth World Cup, he made a significant impact by taking three wickets for just 34 runs. However, in his early years of senior cricket, batting proved to be his stronger suit.

Hasaranga made an impressive debut in first-class cricket, scoring a quick-fire 87 runs for Ports Authority Cricket Club. Later, after switching to Colombo Cricket Club, he continued his fine form and accumulated 586 runs in the 2017 Premier League Tournament, with an average of 39.06 and a strike rate of 93.

His consistent performances with the bat, coupled with a successful bowling streak in List A domestic tournaments, attracted the attention of the national selectors. Consequently, Hasaranga earned a spot in Sri Lanka’s squad for the first two one-day matches against Zimbabwe in June 2017. His exceptional fielding abilities were also noted as a contributing factor to his selection. What followed was a remarkable debut for him in international cricket.

Hasaranga became only the third player in the history of One Day Internationals to achieve a hat-trick on debut, dismissing Zimbabwe’s lower-order batsmen with three consecutive deliveries (the 14th, 15th, and 16th of his career).

Because of his outstanding performances and playing style, Wanindu Hasaranga is the captain of B-Love Kandy team. We are anxiously waiting for the LPLT20 matches and we will see how the team is going to win under his captaincy.
